Web Design for different monitor sizes

Computer monitors range greatly in size.  

Most computer monitors fall in the following 10 categories:  
1024×768, 1280×800, 1280×1024, 1440×900, 1680×1050
1280×768, 1920×1200, 800×600, 1152×864, 1280×720

Now days, a lot of people will be looking at your website on their phone, and phone monitors aspects range even more.... 

This is important to take this into consideration when trying to decide how wide to design your website.  

Allot of business owners are using laptops that are extremely "widescreen" and web designers are using monitors that are even larger and wider then that.  

However, we shouldn't be designing web pages for ourselves, but rather for our customers.  

This means that, we have to take into consideration that a whole lot of people are still using a standard 800 x 600 monitor.  

If we assume that they are maximizing their browser window, we can plan to design a page that fit in about 780 x 430 pixels.   However, if you want to meet them somewhere in the middle, it can be best to design your site to 860 pixels.
